Summer Must-Haves

Spring/Summer 2024 Trends: Here's What You Need to Know (Before Summer Does!)

Out with the old, in with the new! While fashion trends change seasonally, it can still feel sudden. Don't worry, I've got you covered on the hottest trends for Spring/Summer 2024.

Ready to channel your inner party animal? Think sequined blazers à la Tom Ford and full-on glitter looks like Loewe's, inspired by the legendary Studio 54.

Feeling adventurous? Embrace the micro-short trend championed by Paul Mescal (think super short!).

More on the classic side? Don't fret! The preppy look gets a playful update with layers of tulle, as seen at Bally and Miu Miu.

These are just a few of the big trends to keep your eye on (and hopefully wear!) when the warm weather finally arrives. Here's to hoping summer hurries up!

Short & Sweet

Super short shorts are everywhere! They dominated the Milan runways, especially at Gucci's first show with its new designer. The trend continued in Paris with designers like Chanel, McQueen, and Marant all featuring these tiny shorts. It seems like the next step after the "no pants" trend we saw last fall.

Major Mod Micro-Minis

Forget boring bodycon minis, 2024 is all about sparkling micro dresses! This trend combines the boxy silhouettes of the mod era with dazzling embellishments. Designers like Carolina Herrera and Richard Quinn went for soft colors and shimmering paillettes, while Gucci offered a bolder take with a tangerine dream dress featuring a rhinestone checkerboard. If you prefer a more retro vibe, Christian Cowan, Michael Kors, and Versace offered versions with 70s-inspired touches like bell sleeves and groovy floral patterns. It's all about embracing a glamorous and fun look!

Subversive Prep

The classic preppy look just got a major makeover! Designers are taking familiar pieces like cardigans, button-downs, and polos and layering them with something unexpected: tulle! Think fluffy, bouncy skirts paired with traditional preppy tops at Bally, Miu Miu, Loewe, Susan Fang, and Moschino. This trend is all about taking what we know and love and adding a playful twist. Subversive preppy mixes classic elements like sharp lines with softer, airier fabrics. It's a delightful mashup of masculine and feminine styles for a bold and daring look.

Thigh high fits

The trend of ever-shorter men's shorts continues! This season, designers pushed the boundaries even further with micro-shorts that barely cover the upper thigh. Hermès offered a luxurious take with silk-wool blend shorts in neutral tones. Prada went for a daringly high-waisted style that showed off most of the leg. Louis Vuitton presented a collegiate vibe with short shorts hiked up high using chunky "LV" belts, championed by Pharrell Williams.

The glitterbomb cometh

Fashion is ready to party! Cities like London, Milan, and Paris are serving up major disco vibes on the runways.

Dries Van Noten keeps their signature drapey style but adds some glitz with sequined shirts. Ami offers a more casual take on the trend, featuring sequined jeans in black, gray, and silver tones paired with muted tops. Tom Ford's new leader, Peter Hawkings, throws it back to the disco era with sequined blazers as the star of the show. Loewe takes the disco ball approach with a head-to-toe glitter look – a sparkly polo shirt tucked into sparkly pants. This outfit, already worn by Heartstopper's Kit Connor at Vogue World, is guaranteed to make you shine on the dance floor.
